As the Crusaders and Reds prepare to clash this Saturday at Suncorp for the Super Rugby final, we thought we’d look to Rugby Challenge to provide some insight into how the game may turn out. We fired up the game and pitted these two great sides against each other in a simulated clash.
In a hard fought match, our simulation had the Crusaders edge out the Reds 29 to 20. Maitland scored the first try of the game, with McCaw and Carter also picking up tries for the Crusaders, and Maitland grabbing a double late in the game. Carter landed 4 from 5 shots at goal including one successful penalty. Davies and Cooper scored a try each for the Reds, with Cooper converting both as well as kicking two penalties.
Of course, anything can happen on the day, and while they were successful in a simulation in our studio, the Crusaders will have their work cut out for them in real life against the Reds at Suncorp. The team here anticipates some great franchise rugby this weekend, whatever the real final result may be.

The shots look amazing and am chompping at the mouth gaurd to play as are all the other rugby fans out there!!:) reality is ppl will buy both rugby games as this has all the franchise plus more as you get to make our own teams/players etc and world cup is just that in its own right regardless who is better its just grand to finally have rugby on the next gen consoles after four years of rugby08 … Q; did two ppl play the game mentioned above or was it played by the cpu and can we watch a game played by cpu”s only?? …. Q; we can create our own teams and in NZ school rugby is MeanMoariMean , would you create a on-line comp of made up teams esp a comp for teams with school names as that would be a real draw card comp !! once again thanks to the whole crew and there families for producing the next rugby game and i hope after some time off to reap the rewards that you guys consider maybe a sevens rugby game or is that a on-line in the pipeline idea? Crusaders have clearly been the dominant Super rugby side in memory, winning 7 championships. However, due to the fact that this game is based upon this current year (not the past), I hope to see that whatever side wins this year around, will be rated the highest among their Super Rugby competitors. You only have to look at the fluctuating team ratings in Madden (whoever won the Superbowl is the clear cut best team) and Fifa, to see how they use real life events to avoid bias in team ratings. Obviously being a NZ game studio I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Crusaders ranked highest, but if the Reds win tomorrow they deserve the higher rating. I hope to god that you can utilise both SBW’s offloading to its full real life counterparts potential, and I equally hope the same for Coopers step.

Looking sweet. Sbw’s tattoo looks legit, good job on that. Will Genia looks a little tall in photo 1 though, thats the only real innacuracy i could find. Maybe thats just the photo though. Thanks for the update, cant wait for more to come!

Worried that you don’t show pics from the playing game, u can show only basic 3D pics. Graphics in the game are so poor ? I will certainly go to “rugby world cup”, it looks concrete…

Boy I hope you guys are honest with the stats when the game is released. The Reds won fair and square, so should get the higher rating. Mario, it must be the hardest thing to do, but it’s necessary to retain objectivity.
