Not Following the Crowd

The development of Rugby Challenge has meant the creation of much new technology in order deliver a game experience that takes full advantage of the PS3, 360, and PC game platforms.  One area where we have looked to raise the bar is the in-game presentation of stadia and the attending crowd.  Not content with just “standard” techniques that often make the crowd appear as underwhelming window dressing, for Rugby Challenge we have brought new methods and technology to the table which help bring the crowd to life, adding to the realism and emotional impact of the game experience.

The range of techniques and technology surrounding the presentation of the in-game crowd includes the following

  • Every crowd member rendered in realtime from a full 3D animated model
  • Crowd members dressed in home, away, or neutral apparel and colours
  • Home, away, and neutral fans animated independently depending on game events
  • Team flags and banners, camera flashes, and stadium pyrotechnics supported
  • Lighting model includes stadium structure shadows and ambient occlusion for natural results
  • Variable crowd density that flood fills the stadium in a natural way
  • Crowd sounds linked to game events and cutscenes to reinforce the action emotionally
  • Game officials, team support staff, media and cameramen, and stadium security also shown

Looks great – except there is far too much Brumbies gear at AAMI Park. It looks like the entire crowd is gold & navy which would be extremely odd at a Rebels game!

Yeah, I think you’ve mistaken AAMI Park for Canberra Stadium. Need a lot more navy in there.

Also, I’d recommend including an active support area (just a block of navy behind the posts) for the Rebel Army at the Southern End of AAMI Park. We’re the only Super Rugby team to have such a feature and it would be an amazing addition to the game.

I agree with Stuart. Wrong colored crowd for Aami park. There needs to be Navy Blue. Rebel Army would be a great feature. they are a unique element at Melbourne Rebels games. having them behind the goals should go without saying. They have a banner there every week, it’s big enough, perhaps that could be included.

When you play these games normally you can pick the team then you pick the ground then you pick which team is at home. So possibly, the brumbies were at home for this match. hence all the colours.

    Great rugby documentary for you
David Watkins takes us from his earliest rugby days in rugby union with Newport, Wales and the British and Irish Lions to his decision to move north to rugby league with Salford. The Only player to ever captain the British and Irish Lions in Rugby Union and Great Britain in Rugby League.

A canny, darting fly-half from the mining community of Blaina in north Gwent, Watkins used his sport to expand his horizons and make his name known and respected worldwide.

The last time I was soooooooo excited for a game coming out was with Midnight Club Dub Edition \o/ Ever since I bought games because I have to keep me busy and not because I excited for a specific game. This year seem to be the year for the good games such as Ace Combat:Horizon Assault. I think I just wet my pants =^..^=

I asume because of the Super 15 that there will be stadiums included from South Africa e.g Newlands,Loftusversfeld,Absa(Coke Cola Park). Right? I would hate to play a home with the Stomers in a new zealand stadium. It takes the realism away should it be the case.

Rugby fans have been waiting a long time for new union game – not convinced the decision to seemingly focus a large proportion of budget on crowd graphics was a good one. Certainly hope the on pitch gameplay doesnt suffer for it.

yeah this game looks amazing but if the gameplay or modes are bad then the game will be bad but most likely people would have bought it but they will get bored and stop playing it and be even more angry at these publishers of the game because rugby league live was bad which they made. cant wait for gameplay vids surely they have to be up soon since this is coming out in august.
